The Walk. [New Project]

About the session:

In this session, I started thinking of ideas for what I could focus my Walk on. By answering some questions that I was given, it allowed me to think of other possibilities for what I could write about and it led me to finding a final idea. By looking at other people’s past work for The Walk, it has given me a better understanding of how I am going to present my Walk. I will also be including audio clips and pictures and my own drawings of my locations. In a session we had with Alma, we were taught how to use the audio recorders for when we need to input audio clips into our work. I am still figuring out what I am planning to do for my Walk but I have a rough idea of what I would like to create. I will be focusing on Fashion Travel Journalism.

Ideas for the walk: Oxford Street, at Christmas? Parks in central London? or in my area? Shoreditch ? Draw a map birds eye view of all the streets? Look into famous designers? Hidden gems idea ?

Going back in time, thinking about the historical elements of the area/place.

An Alien has landed in my home town…

Hello, welcome. This is Enfield. Here we have the main town, which has a variation of places to eat or shop or hang out. A personal favorite of mine is McDonald’s. We also have a cinema that I could take you to see, there are some good films showing at the moment that you might enjoy. How long will you be staying for? An area that is quite popular is on the A10, called Krispy Kremes, you’ll find the best doughnuts there! Along with another Mcdonald’s, my favorite. What’s your favorite type of food? There’s also a Nandos which I think you might like. The high street consists of many places that can assist us, such as the hairdressers, if you’re interested in getting your hair done.

Thinking of my place as a person…

Enfield feels quite sad sometimes. rather rejected. The people that live with Enfield can be cruel sometimes. Not very respectful of Enfield. Not very appreciative. Enfield feels quite hurt a lot of the time, so many bad things happening under his wing and he seems to get blamed for it.

How can visuals help us as writers?

-picture a story – feelings, enjoy – analyse, describing who’s in the picture, where they are etc – denote – connotations – show and not tell – interpret stuff from it – reflect the genre and tone – contrasting, history change – people/characters – action / reaction – culture/place

Where am I thinking of placing it? Is it going to be fictionalized? Setting? Am i using research into historical events? Using it as a travel guide? What forms of transport and communication are used? Fictionalizing real events ? Where and when is my overall setting? Starting in the past and coming up to the present day? Before and after pictures?

Develop setting, overcome challenges and issues (developing ideas) possibilities

Proposal – Interactive Map (Unit 6,7 and 8 – 1.1 and 1.2)

  1. What is your chosen area and why?
  2. What genre are you using? (ie food history sport fictional photography etc)
  3. what is your style of writing? (travel/journalistic, blog, non fiction or fiction)
  4. what are the aims and objectives of your map? ( educate? entertain? prompt imagination? promote the tourist industry?)
  5. Target audience; who is your audience and why?
  6. what is the overall style of your piece ?
  7. Generally, describe what you want to include in your map and why?
  8. What visual elements will you include and how will you implement them? (photos drawings, colour scheme)
  9. Technical: how will you make your piece interactive, visual and audio based?
  10. What creative problems might you need to overcome in audio, interactive and visual and how will you propose to do that? (ie a contingency plan)

1 – I have chosen my area to be Oxford Street, I chose Oxford Street because it is quite known regarding fashion, as it has a lot of retail shops and The London College Of Fashion.

2 – I am doing fashion travel journalism for my genre.

3 – My style of writing will be non-fiction, I will be writing a journalistic piece on fashion and the fashion industry on Oxford Street.

4 – The aims and objectives of my map will be to educate and inform the people of what is hidden in front of them on Oxford Street and to open their eyes to the beauty of it.

5 – My target audience will be people interested in fashion, aging from 15 – 35.

6 – My overall style for my piece will be for it to be quite bright, vivid colors, for it to be informative and to help the readers get a picture in their minds from my descriptions. I will also have pictures to show examples of what I’ll be talking about. I will be explaining about the ins and outs of how the garments have been made etc.

7 – In my map I would like to include, information about the fashion industry, about how the clothes get to be made, about the designers and how they started out and have gotten to where they are now. Also, I would like to mention and inform about some of the hidden gems, little fashion boutiques on the back streets of Oxford Street.

8 – For visual elements, I will be using pictures of the clothing items I will be talking about, along with maybe some pictures of the designers, I would also like to draw a map of a birds eye view of Oxford Street, Bond Street, Regent Street etc for my contents page.

9 – In order to make my piece interactive, I will be recording myself and others talking about places to go to, like a tour guide but one that you can listen to. I may also record myself reading out what I have written. I also want to attach links to the brands website pages on the pages of my work so people can access it from there.

10 – Some issues that I may come across could be that I may not have the right skills to be able to use the right audio or not completely understand how to use photoshop the way I would want to for my piece to look a certain way. I will up skill and learn to adjust in order to make my work the best to my ability but if i am not able to succeed, it will be a process.
